The College Years and My 20’s

After Graduating from North Attleboro High School in 1993, I immediately began college at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Melanie and I had started dating and she was at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Although I had lots of friends and was doing well academically, I never felt fully comfortable at UMass and transferred to Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. Being closer to Melanie probably helped, but I think ultimately I was meant to attend a smaller, more intimate college and I can say my Lafayette experience was amazing. I did well in the classroom and found my niche as Resident Advisor and member of many clubs.

I spent my summers working for the North Attleboro Park and Recreation department as a summer camp counselor. In those days, the program was huge. I spent most of those summers working with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders; usually more than 300 kids in that part of the program.  Meanwhile, Melanie worked as a lifeguard at the WW2 Memorial Swimming Pool. Those summers were the best.

After graduation, I took a position with the large management consulting firm Accenture (then called Andersen Consulting) and moved to Brookline. Those were fun years: working hard and enjoying time with friends and living in the city. Melanie and I married in July of 2001 and bought our first home together, a brownstone condo in Brookline in September of that year.

By 2004, Melanie and I had started thinking about having children and where we would raise our family. It wasn’t a hard decision. I couldn’t imagine a better place to raise a family than North Attleboro. Not to mention, it seemed most of our friends had all returned to town to do the same. We returned to North Attleboro and began making our home on John J Grimaldi Drive.
